The Mihara Daruma is a folk craft representative of Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Production began during the end of the Edo period and ceased in the post World War II era, but was revived in the 1980s due to consumer demand. The Mihara Daruma has 4 distinct characteristics:

A long head with both eyes present to see well into the future
A hachimaki (headband) representing perseverance.
Noisemakers inside to make wishes come true.
The ability to return to the upright position.

The annual Mihara Daruma festival held in February dates back to the Muromachi period, and the largest Daruma in Japan makes an appearance. Mihara Daruma Red is inspired by the red of the Daruma, a traditional symbol of Mihara City.
