This Hobonichi Techo Original A6 is created in collaboration with the Tokyo National Museum and features one of the most beautiful artwork from Shibata Zeshin.
Shibata Zeshin (1807-1891) was born in Ryogoku, Edo, and was an active lacquer artist and painter from the late Edo period until the middle of the Meiji era. He had many lacquering techniques that he created himself, and created many magnificent lacquer wares and paintings.
The print on this cover features one of the most beautiful selections from the Tairyukyo Gafu. It’s called “Small White Butterfly” and it has an exceptionally beautiful background color and a skillful composition.
This artwork combines the warmth of hand-drawn brush art with a beautifully designed composition that feels fresh even to this day. We hope you thoroughly enjoy Shibata Zeshin’s creation.
Do you want to know more about the planner inside?
Starting from this year, you are able to choose your favorite language for the 2023 planner included in this set. It comes in Japanese (called Hobonichi Techo Original) or English (called Hobonichi Techo Planner) languages and you also find an image to see the differences.
Its daily pages offer plenty of space to fill despite the book’s compact A6 size. The graph paper offers an open layout for you to neatly lay out writings, clippings, and drawings. The daily quotes also provide users with interesting reading material.
The thin, light paper, called Tomoe River paper, is strong, resistant to bleeding, and allows ink to dispense smoothly across the paper, an ideal choice for a planner. A special stitch-binding allows the planner to lay completely flat without having to hold it down.
The daily planner starts from January 2023 and ends in December 2023.
