This Hobonichi Techo Cousin A5 features a cute polar bear drawn by illustrator Izumi Shiokawa.
The soft lines of Shiokawa’s drawings make for a design that feels incredibly gentle as she depicts two young polar bear cubs being held by their mother, and an illustration of a cub walking slowly.
The cotton-based fabric of the cover was chosen for its resemblance to the coloring of polar bears. Silkscreen printing was used to transfer the artwork in a blue-tinted dark gray ink, creating a print that feels glossy and textured.
The back of the includes an illustration of a polar bear cub strolling casually. The interior pocket shows an innocent polar bear cub sprawled out to make you smile every time you open your techo.
The bookmarks are shiny, thin satin ribbons with diagonally cut tips and a bright red that really pops against the cotton.
The design is simple but so adorable thanks to the charm of Shiokawa’s illustration that it will capture your heart.
Do you want to know more about the planner inside?
Starting from this year, you are able to choose your favorite language for the 2023 planner included in this set. It comes in Japanese or English languages and you also find an image to see the differences.
The one-day-per-page in A5 size was created in response to customer requests for more space to fill with writing and clippings. The Cousin is perfect for collecting a great deal of information into a single book, using as a school notebook or parenting diary, or simply writing in larger letters. The larger size means this book is ideal for leaving in a single place at work or at home.
The Cousin also has an exclusive section: the popular “Weekly Pages” tracks a week in each two-page spread for easy planning.
The thin, light paper, called Tomoe River paper, is strong, resistant to bleeding, and allows ink to dispense smoothly across the paper, an ideal choice for a planner. A special stitch-binding allows the planner to lay completely flat without having to hold it down.
The daily planner starts from January 2023 and ends in December 2023.
